In April 2025, MyHeritage.com significantly expanded its archive by adding 105 million historical records. This substantial update was distributed across 13 new and updated collections. These records cover several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Poland, and Czechia.
The collections offer a variety of record types beneficial for genealogical research. These include passenger and airline lists, immigration records, draft and enlistment documents, military awards and casualty lists, gravestones and memorials, land allotment applications, and pages from historical newspapers. Many of these collections also include images of the original documents.
Here is the list of the 13 new and updated collections released in April:
Canada, Gravestones and Memorials: This is an index of transcriptions from Canadian headstones and memorials, starting from 1893. Records typically contain the name of the deceased, birth and death dates, and burial location. The transcription field may also include names and dates of relatives, which can be found using keyword search. This collection contains 2,045,406 records.
Canada, Home Children Immigration Index, 1869-1932: This index covers immigration records for "Home Children," who were young migrants sent from the United Kingdom to Canada as part of child migration schemes between 1869 and 19322. It includes 246,528 records. Records may provide the child's name, birth date, departure/arrival details, Canadian destination, and sometimes background or placement information.
Canada Military Awards, 1916-1961: This collection indexes military awards granted in Canada between 1916 and 19612. Records usually include the name of the person awarded, the date of the award, and its designation. Some records offer additional details such as rank, regiment, and images. It contains 113,450 records.
Canada Newspapers from OldNews.com: Created using MyHeritage's optical character recognition (OCR) technology, this collection indexes historical national, regional, and local newspapers and periodicals from Canada, primarily focusing on articles from the mid-1700s to the early 2000s. It includes 1,762,298 pages across 243 newspaper titles and contains images. These publications contain news and potentially mentions of relatives, along with records that can substitute for vital records like birth, marriage, and death notices and obituaries.
Canada, Upper and Lower Canada, Land Boards & Petitions, 1784-1853: This collection indexes records of land petitions and land board proceedings from Upper Canada (now Ontario) and Lower Canada (now Quebec) between 1784 and 18532. Records generally include the individual's name, the date of the petition, and the registration location. This collection originates from Library and Archives Canada and is subject to their terms. It contains 188,407 records.
Canada, World War I Personnel Files: This collection includes military records for individuals who served for Canada during World War I (1914-1918). Records may contain name, birth date/place, and enlistment date/place, with potential details on unit, rank, and regiment number. These records come from Library and Archives Canada. It includes 644,751 records.
Czechia Newspapers from OldNews.com: Using MyHeritage's OCR, this collection indexes historical national, regional, and local newspapers, periodicals, and gazettes from Czechia dating from 1756 onwards. It added 2,367,373 new pages, bringing the total to 7,527,279 pages.
Germany Newspapers from OldNews.com: This collection uses MyHeritage's OCR for articles from historical newspapers, periodicals, and gazettes across Germany, with a primary focus from the mid-1700s to the mid-1900s. It added 736,210 new pages, bringing the total to 13,627,613 pages. These printed articles contain news, potential mentions of relatives, and vital record substitutes.
Poland Newspapers from OldNews.com: Also using MyHeritage's OCR, this collection indexes historical national, regional, and local newspapers and periodicals from within the borders of modern Poland, primarily focusing on articles from the late 1700s to the mid-1900s. It added 207,914 new pages, bringing the total to 6,737,445 pages. Similar to other newspaper collections, it offers news and vital record substitutes.
United Kingdom & Commonwealth, First World War Casualty Lists 1917-19192: This collection comprises records of soldiers from the UK and Commonwealth nations from 1917 to 19192. Compiled from casualty lists published by the British War Office in the latter half of WWI, it includes records from South Africa, India, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Rhodesia, and Canada. Records typically list the soldier's name, rank, year of death, date on the casualty list, enlistment location, service number, and sometimes details of awarded medals. This collection includes images and contains 1,691,558 records.
New York, New York City Air Arrivals, 1957-1962: This collection indexes records of international air passengers arriving in New York City between 1957 and 19622. Created by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and related agencies, these records document international airline passenger and crew arrivals. Most records are for individual passengers, though some airline forms are included. Records typically include the passenger's name, departure date/place, arrival date/place, and nationality. Some records may also include birth date and place. This collection includes images and contains 3,911,129 records.
United States, World War II Draft Registrations, 1940-19472: This is an index of U.S. WWII draft registration cards for men who registered through the Selective Service System. Records list personal details such as name, birth date, address, and occupation. This collection includes images and contains 42,012,273 records.
United States, World War II Navy Muster Rolls, 1938-1949: This collection contains muster rolls for the U.S. Navy from the WWII era (1938-1949) and significant earlier enlistment years. Records generally include the person's name and enlistment date/place. Some records also specify the name of the ship they served on. 49,512,669 records were added in this update, bringing the total number of records in the collection to 69,158,2022.
Searching these collections on MyHeritage is free. However, to view the full records or save them to a family tree, a paid subscription (Data, Complete, or Omni) is required. Accessing the full newspaper images from the OldNews.com collections requires an Omni or OldNews Pro subscription. MyHeritage's Record Matching technology is designed to automatically alert users with family trees to potential matches in these new collections.
